Christmas in Breckenridge
The beautiful Town of Breckenridge turns into a winter wonderland during the Christmas season. There’s truly something for everyone. Here are some tips for making the most of the holiday season for locals and visitors of all ages!
Race of the Santas & The Lighting of Breckenridge
The Christmas season in Breckenridge officially kicks off with the Race of the Santas and the Lighting of Breckenridge on December 8. Cheer on the crowd of running Santas or lace up your own holiday running shoes to join the race. At 5 p.m. in the Blue River Plaza, Santa will do the honors at the Town’s official Christmas lighting ceremony with cookies provided by the Breckenridge Tourism Office.
Pet lovers will also enjoy the Holiday Dog Parade at 3:45 p.m., where festively attired pooches will parade from Main Street Station to Blue River Plaza. Holiday karaoke at the Masonic Lodge after the lighting of the town is also a blast. For Race of the Santas registration and a full schedule of events on Dec. 8, go to https://www.runreg.com/race-of-the-santas.
Skiing Options for Everyone – Downhill & Cross-Country
Breckenridge Ski Resort is at the heart of the Town of Breckenridge and offers world-class skiing and snowboarding. Whether you’re a beginner or comfortable on double black diamonds, you’ll have a great time on the mountain. Go to the Breckenridge Ski Resort website for information about passes, equipment rental and lessons for children or adults.
If downhill isn’t your speed, consider strapping on some cross-country skis. The Breckenridge Nordic Center offers lessons and miles of groomed trails. You can also explore nearby Cucumber Gulch Preserve on cross-country skis or snowshoes.
Shopping & Après Shopping
Main Street Breckenridge is heaven for shoppers, especially during the Christmas season. You’ll find boutiques and outlets with clothing, jewelry and accessories for men, women and children; toy and candy shops for the young and young at heart; and top outdoor retailers for ski and snowboard jackets, pants, helmets and goggles. When you’re done shopping for anything you may need for winter recreation – or jewelry, art and leather goods if you’re more of an indoor person – check out Breckenridge’s breweries, wineries and happy hour scene.
Eat, Drink and Be Merry!
Breckenridge has a lot of great restaurants and bars. Carve out a little time for happy hour on a heated patio or hot beverages by the fireplace during your holiday vacation in Breckenridge. Be sure to make reservations early if you want to eat out on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
